Interactive Wine Scoring
To make the tasting more interactive we decided to hand out personal score sheets. All those who filled out the personal scoring sheets were entered into a drawing for a free wine of their choosing.
The above categories were judged on a 1-5 point scale. Five being the max score per category and 25 being the max score per wine. |
Wine Tasting
Thanks to all who attended the wine tasting this month.
2007 Günter Triebaumer TRIE White
Light yellow with greenish reflections, clearly visible viscosity. A fresh white bunch of flowers in the nose, followed by grapefruit zest and Yellow Muscat grapes. Accompanied by juicy pear pulp and a twinkle of lemon. All fragrances result in a multi -layered aroma spectrum. Dry with a creamy acidity and the dense extract of optimal Chardonnay grapes. A finely balanced blend between hearty power and playful aromas.
2006 Jean-Luc Colombo Côte du Rhône Blanc La Redonne
70% Viognier sourced from 20-year-old vines just south of Condrieu, and 30% Roussanne from 30-year-old vines near the appellation of
2007 Fontanafredda Briccotondo Barbera
This is a ruby-red wine with purple highlights. The nose is packed with black fruit, especially blackberries and plums, with slight spicy overtones hinting at black pepper and cinnamon. Sweet, soft tannins come together in a closely woven texture merging with the fruit, while a crisp freshness provides a long, tasty finish.
2006 Torbreck Cuvee Juveniles
The 2006 Cuvee Juveniles is a blend of 60% Grenache, 20%
2005 Jean Louis Chave Saint-Joseph Offerus Syrah
The Chave Family has been growing grapes in the rhone valley of France sine 1481 and have a reputation for making good wine in poor years, and excellent wine in good ones.
They use low yeilding vines (average age 60 years) and a late harvest to produce the ripest fruit, and there is virtually no intervention in the winemaking and bottling with no filtration.
Jean Louis Chave has wines listed on the Wine Spectator Top 100 List 4 of the 5 last years.
This wine from Saint-Joseph is
100 % Syrah, it’s juicy, with lots of briar, black cherry and sweet spice notes backed by solid, medium-weight grip. A nice snappy red licorice note checks in on the finish.
