Located in northern Portugal (Green Portugal) the Quinta da Aveleda estate has been run by the Guedes family for over 300 years. This area of Portugal is renown for its refreshing white wines, just as, across the border in Spain, the white grape, Albarino rules. Their Aveleda Fonte Vinho Verde is produced from careful selected Loureiro, Trajadura, and Arinto grapes, which are lightly pressed and then fermented in temperature controlled stainless tanks to preserve the freshness of the fruit. It is produced according to the most modern winemaking techniques that the Guedes family imposes at every stage of production. This Vinho Verde is a bright wine with a pale yellow color and is slightly frizzante with bubbles that quickly subside. The flavors are of green apple, peach and citrus with a some creaminess on mid palate, followed by a bit of lemon-lime and grapefruit on the crisp and refreshing finish. Vivacious, fruity and smooth, Aveleda Fonte Vinho Verde is great as a stand alone sipper or with appetizers and can be the perfect match for light meals, spicy preparations (Thai, Chinese, Indian) and all manner of seafood. This wine consistently rates between 84-89 points by publications like The Wine Spectator, The Wine Enthusiast and Wine & Spirits.
