Susana Balbo is one the most respected female winemakers in all of Argentina; in fact, she's one of their most respected winemakers, regardless of gender. She has over two decades of winemaking experience and skills that served her well when she founded her own winery in 1999. Crios means "offspring" and the Crios lines of wines represent wines that are not quite at the same level of quality and maturity as her more expensive Susana Balbo wines, though they are handcrafted with the same care and attention. The Crios label features a Mayan inspired image of three connected and overlapping hands that represent Susana and her two children.
The Crios wines are meant to be consumed while they are young and vibrant and full of fruit expression and the Crios de Susana Balbo Rose of Malbec 2009 is no different. Bottled in a clear glass, the striking deep pink hue is immediately apparent. The wild strawberry and red cherry flavors are bright and fresh, while a creaminess softly coats the mid-palate and spicy notes lead to a clean, dry and upbeat finish. This Rose of Malbec was the most popular wine at the recent Vino Bello Tasting Class at Bravo Cucina.
