HISTORY: Recognized as one of Oregon’s most consistent Pinot Gris producers for nearly 25 years, Ponzi remains a leader of this varietal with initial plantings in 1979.
HARVEST 2006: We may remember 2006 as the year Oregon’s orchards and vineyards produced record yields. Crop tons per acre this year were extraordinary across the Willamette Valley. Higher than normal rainfall in the winter charged soils with abundant water. This ground water enabled vines to flourish through the extremely dry summer. Harvest was hot and fast for most sites. Soil water may have been the causal factor for such a large average cluster size, but it also insured high quality and clean fruit from extremely happy vines! The 2006 vintage is showing extremely aromatic white wines with textural interest and brightness of fruit. The 2006 Pinot Gris is produced from only certified sustainable vineyards; Ponzi Aurora Vineyard, Linda Vista Vineyard, Winter’s Hill Vineyard, Gemini Vineyards, Durant Vineyards, Ponzi Estate Vineyard and Dion Vineyard.
FERMENTATION: Fermented in temperature controlled, stainless steel tanks, not exceeding 55 degrees F. A partial malolactic fermentation occurred to expand inherent flavors in this delicious wine. Stelvin closures (screwcaps) were used on 100% of the production. This wine was lightly filtered just before bottling. Alcohol is 13.9%. Finished pH is 3.19. RS is .60g/100ml.

Lively and spicy, with pear and citrus flavors at the core and hints of hay and guava sneaking in on the finish, which persists well. Drink now. 6,845 cases made. –HS
