With plantings at two separate locations in the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation of Monterey County, Mer Soleil’s Chardonnay vines are nestled on the east-facing lower slopes of the Sierra de Salinas range in what is one of the coolest, driest grape growing areas in California. The Result is a rich, voluptuous wine that represents the quintessential California Chardonnay. Tropical fruit along with exotic spices dominate this hedonistic effort throughout.

The Wine Enthusiast: This shows the ripe tropical fruit of a fine vintage, yet maintains the keen citrusy acidity that makes this vineyard’s Chards so balanced and ageworthy. Beneath the pineapple marmalade, apricot and caramelly oak flavors is a rich, flinty minerality that cries out for lobster. Score: 92. —Steve Heimoff, May 01, 2007.
