You Are Here:
Another powerfully expressive Petite Sirah from Girard Winery. You’ll need to
take the hinges off your door to get this big wine into your house. Full-bodied
with bursting flavors of dark cherry, blueberry and plum. A rustic, earthy
quality on the nose, with spicy notes of nutmeg, allspice and cocoa. Serve this
rich wine with lamb, stews, cassoulet and other hearty dishes.
All of the fruit we use to make this wine comes from the small clone Petite
Sirah, which we believe delivers richer concentration and brighter flavors. Our
vineyards are all in Calistoga, where the warmer climate and rich soils provide
great depth of character to our Petite Sirah. The blend is 93% Petite Sirah and
7% Rhone-varietal old-world field blend. 5400 cases produced.
Winemaking
The grapes were hand sorted and crushed to stainless fermentors. Pumpovers
were done as gently as possible so as to avoid unnecessarily harsh tannin
extraction. Pressed at dryness directly to barrel, the wine was bottled un-fined
and unfiltered after 18 months in French and American oak barrels.
