Ruby red colour with garnet hues. Complex generous nose with mature aromas of cherries, red berries, tobacco and hints of coffee and cocoa powder. Multilayered structure with nicely balanced soft tannins, elegant fruit leading to a very lingering finish.
Pian della Vigne
The Pian delle Vigne Estate, located six kilometers south of Montalcino, above the Val d'Orcia valley, was purchased by Antinori in July 1995. The estate was named for the characteristic 19th century train station situated in the property, which is still in use. The estate is a of 186 hectares: 60 hectars of vineyards, 2 hectares of olive trees and 124 hectares covered with forests.
The 60 hectares of Sangiovese (loccally called "Brunello") are 27 hectares of 20 year-old vines and 33 hectares planted recently with five clones of Montalcino Sangiovese Grosso. The vineyard elevation is 130 meters sea level, with south east exposure, and the soil is poor and rocky.
